LGBTQ+ Recreational Soccer League Coming to Central Florida

ORLANDO, FLA. – February 15, 2023 – OUT Sports League, an Orlando-based LGBTQ+ recreational sports organization, announced it is expanding its sports offerings by creating the first LGBTQ+ recreational soccer league in Central Florida. The league will play on Tuesday nights at Barnett Park starting April 4th, 2023, and offers LGBTQ+ individuals a safe place to enjoy the camaraderie and competition of soccer.

“Adding a soccer league made a lot of sense. We received a lot of interest from the community and know there are a lot of gay and lesbian fans of Orlando City SC and the Orlando Pride,” said John Teixeira, the Commissioner of OUT Sports League. “We think soccer will continue to fulfill the mission of OUT which is to provide a safe, social, and accepting in-person alternative to bars and apps for members of the LGBTQ+ to meet and interact.”

The soccer league features co-ed 9v9 play, 50-minute games, and certified referees. Players of any gender, age, or sexual orientation are welcome to play. Games will be played on Tuesdays from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm and the league will host a post-game social every week following play.

“OUT Sports League launched in 2021, and since then, we’ve become the fastest growing LGBTQ+ organization in Florida with over 1,200 players,” said Teixeira. "We’re excited to add soccer to our kickball, dodgeball, cornhole, and beach volleyball leagues and to help expand social and sporting options for the Central Florida LGBTQ+ community.”
